Even in the old days folk didn't take safety to seriously, note the horseless carriage parked on the road junction, though in those times it was probably the ONLY vehicle. There is a boy to be seen watching the photographer, he is in the boys school playground.

If you look to the hills beyond, you will see that there were no trees, just moorland and large rocks.
