Northumberland in May...
Early spring rather than winter is the low point for local produce in Northumberland, but in May things are beginning to pick up again.....
The new lambs are in the fields - there's some January lowland lamb for eating but the Northumbrian Hill lamb won't be ready till August or September
The end of the winter veg - most of the veg producers are selling bedding plants, but you'll find the first of the new season vegetables – early salad leaves and herbs grown in polytunnels and under glass
The hens and ducks are laying well, though - there are plenty of eggs to be had, perhaps even some goose eggs!
And of course - there are always the great Northumbrian cheeses, ham, bacon, sausages - not to mention conserves and chutneys.
